Around 100 Ryanair passengers battled over baggage charges, leading to all 166 travellers being escorted from the aircraft by armed law enforcement.
A significant group of college students complained to cabin staff when a companion of theirs was barred from the flight for refusing to cover a levy for excess baggage at the gate.
Police were called to the scene, at Lanzarote runway,in the Canary Islandsonce the students on board began to protest and refuse to take their seats.
Everyone was ordered off the plane, waiting to fly to Charleroi airport in Brussels, by officers from the Civil Guard.
The 66 people who have been not included in the protest experienced a three-hour delay and the 100 students who kicked off were later declined to fly by the budget airline.
A spokesman for the Civil Guard in Lanzarote said: “The protest was peaceful and no arrests were made.”
Ryanair said the number of protesters had “become disruptive and refused to abide by crew guidelines after we required payment of a gate bag fee for outsize luggage.”
